The New Jersey Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (NJRID) is a non-profit membership-driven professional association. The 200-plus members span the entire state and include professional American Sign Language (ASL)/English interpreters, transliterators, Deaf and hard-of-hearing consumers, students currently enrolled in interpreter training programs and others who have a personal interest in the field.

NJRID is one of many local affiliate chapters of the national Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. (RID).

The principal purpose of NJRID is to initiate, sponsor, promote and execute activities that further the profession of interpretation/transliteration of American Sign Language and English.

RID is conducting a membership-wide survey and needs your opinions on issues related to MEMBER BENEFITS, VOTING AT CONFERENCE, the EIPA DECISION and more. RID Research grant: Deadline December 31, 2008

The RID Board of Directors has approved $15,000 in funds for this current fiscal year
to be distributed as supporting research grants for research projects conducted by its members.  

Depending on the number of applications received, RID may fund a single project or multiple projects.

RID No Longer to Coordinate Written Test

 NOTE: Written Test Deadline:   After the December 6, 2008 test, RID will no longer coordinate the NIC pencil and paper version of the exam through the Regional Test Centers and Supersites.  The NIC written test will be offered via computer through our test provider CASTLE Worldwide.  The computer-based testing is offered at over 200 sites nationwide.  CASTLE provides on-demand test scheduling and the results are available immediately at the test site.  The written OTC, SC: L and CDI exams will continue to be offered through our Supersites.  The list of Supersites is listed in this issue. ***read more***
